Communal sink and stand – They did a great job on the cabinet/stand for the giant sink. Looking nice. Some hardware, a few river rocks, and we can wash our hands…

Bar & Kitchen – Matt Decell and crew have most of the main elements are roughed in. Still to come is the large “cover” and the long bar that extends from the wet bar….

Colors – Most of the walls that are going to be painted are painted. Orange, green, charcoal, blue and grey are the picks….

Mezz – They final were able to pull away the platform wood and drip cloths from the beams…so you can see from the work area up and out to the patio deck….

The other day the communal sink arrived. The thing is giant…a bit over 6 feet long…and was a burden to get upstairs. It will be mounted on a heavy wood frame, and we’ll add some river rocks in the bottom of it (for added weight?).

Yesterday Red and his crew installed the steel for the mezzanine stairs (and handrails). Matt Decell will follow up with the treads, which are being made from some of the old beams that were removed from the ceiling. The stairs have a big impact on the space…and bring to life the diagonal run that KHA designed…running from the bar to the stage, up the stairs and across the mezzanine.

A quick update on things around the 301 King project. It’s been two weeks of wiring, hvac and other prep work for the big changes coming. We’re nearing the end of the electrical wiring, and thanks to the team at E-Lifespaces we’ll have some structured included that will allow our computers to talk to the tvs in the space. Important for presentations and World Cup.

We’ve also been working through a number of design projects…from the flooring approach (mix of concrete/wood), lighting systems and fixtures, plumbing and hardware (including a cool concrete communal sink), and finally the kitchen/bar appliances. Many thanks to Beverly at Haute Design for her help and guidance on some key questions.

All the while, Matt Decell has been cranking a way on the kitchen/bar cabinetry (as well as a custom ping pong/conference table)….so the coming weeks should be fun to follow as all this stuff starts flowing in. More to come.

Despite torrential downpours and first floor flooding (thanks to street level storm drain), progress was made last week. The most exciting part of which was the foundation for the stage that’s located between the kitchen/bar and work stations. The stage will serve as a lounge/conference area and a literal stage for presentations and performances. It also leads to the stairs that take you up to the mezzanine.

The patio deck waterproofing is down, so they can remove the temporary patio roof and the sun is now shining in/through. However, that’s going to change by end of today as they need to board up the open wall to keep the weather out. Can’t wait until the get the glass wall goes in soon to see that sun shining through permanently.

Yesterday we took a lunchtime field trip up to Matt Decell’s shop at the Navy Yard to look over wood grain/color samples, as we need to nail down selections for the open kitchen cabinetry and wall systems. Matt’s place is fun to roam around, although he won’t let you touch anything for fear of messing up one of the modern, custom pieces he’s building or losing your finger (or worse) on one of the cutting instruments. He’s in a big old Navy Warehouse, and has a shop-within-a-shop built inside to control the process (finishing, etc.) and temperatures.
